On October 7 2023, Hamas broke out of Gaza and inflicted the greatest loss of life on Isrealis since the October war of 1973. This bloody rampage completely changed the balance of terror in the region as Israel unleashed the IDF to conduct a brutal, genocidal campaign of revenge against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. I spent the first 108 days of this campaign covering the war for Sky News, Deutsche Welle and Al Jazeera. Here is a collection of the news packages and lives from that period.
I covered the war, initially, mostly from roof tops and balconies; such are the demands of news coverage these days… Access to Gaza was impossible and I salute the hundreds of brave journalists inside Gaza who have told this story, many of them paying the highest price for their endeavours.
